Quiet Books

Sorry for the unexpected hiatus from my blog! I didn't realize how rapped up I got in the fabulous weather! Needless to say that it is SNOWING right now!! That's right SNOWING! So here I am back on the ole' blog-a-roo.
I found the most fabulous blog today as I was getting my Pinterest fix. It caught my eye because I have started looking for quiet book ideas. Boy, oh boy, does she have ideas!!!

I had a quiet book my Grandmother made me and I remember spending tons of time playing with it. Especially during Sacrament Meeting. It always seemed to pass the time quickly {as I am sure my Mom loved having me occupied}
To this day I am not sure where it ended up and have been wanting to make one for my kids. Now the task doesn't seem so daunting with this fabulous blog!
I think I might even have to try my trusty Silhouette with this project!

Felt flowers...how do you wear them?

We had extended family pictures this last weekend. 

Was I ready: NOPE! 

I was especially stumped on flowers and headbands for my girls. 

I was just tired of the same old bows and flowers they wear. 

So I started searching around blogland for new ideas...

we all know it didn't  disappoint! 

Jamielyn over at I {heart} naptime always has amazing ideas!

And I totally fell in love with her felt flowers

OR 

maybe her darling little girl! 

Follow her super easy, pictures and all tutorial to get some for your darling little girls!

We were all wearing bright colors and I thought her shirt was just too boring! 

So, I grabbed some snaps and attached them to the shirt and the back of each flower. 

I love how it turned out! and super inexpensive too! 

I might be doing overkill, but I just love these! 

I attached them to the elastic headbands for adults. 

I usually wear them when I workout or am out in the yard to keep my hair out of my face. 

They fit her head perfect and the non slide sticky stuff on the inside keeps it in place.

p.s. totally noticed the water spots on B's shirt after I posted the pic's. haha

burp cloths

During my sewing excursion a while ago decided to "fix" up these cloth diapers by adding some darling fabric I found at JoAnn's on the remnant shelves. I got just shy of two yards (one of each) for less than 5 bucks!!

I even had enough of the brown, green, aqua and mustard fabric to make one of my girls a skirt!

fold and cut fabric to right length and height. ( I measured a skirt they each had)

I put the elastic across the top and folded the fabric down to determine the correct width.

Pressed it down for easier sewing.

This is what it looked like when done sewing the waist band for the elastic.

Leave the ends open to feed the elastic.

I placed a safety pin on the end to feed it through the fabric.

Pull the end all the way through (make sure you don't let the other end come through as well) I bit the back end of the elastic so it wouldn't go through.

Turn the fabric inside out and sew up the side and hem the bottom.

I then added rick rack to the bottom for extra detain. 

I don't like using pins with rick rack so I just line it up along the bottom edge as I went along.

Nursery curtains

Update: My curtains were featured on Just Beckause!!! I was so excited to see my curtains were featured on a darling post about ruffles. 

 I picked up a pair of black curtains at my favorite store...{Target} for $17.99 for the pair. I knew they needed something so I hung them and waited for the inspiration. I was in the living room cleaning one day and started looking at the curtains hanging in there. 

Started thinking about how I wanted to change them and boom, like a ton of bricks. I grabbed the scissors and started cutting the black and white demask off.

I used embroidery floss and a long scrapbooking needle, tied a knot on one end and stitched an in and out stitch the length of the fabric

pulled the floss tight to ruffle as desired. and tied a knot on the finishing end. 

Next, I pinned the ruffles to the curtains in three rows. (the ruffles weren't long enough so I had to use multiple pieces on each row) 

With having multiple ruffles on each row I had to cut the extra fabric and floss and retie a knot. 

I then went to my sewing machine and sewed each ruffle to the curtain.

 

I love how they turned out! Just the girlie touch they needed.

Next I want to add a ruffle across the meeting of the two fabrics.
But, oh so much better for now.

Livingroom curtains

I have seen projects similar to this one but I don't remember which blog I saw this one on. So, I can't give credit where credit is do on the originality of this project. Mine of course is not an exact replica, rather my interpretation of a fore mentioned project.
2 canvas drop cloths purchased at Home Depot for $9.95 a piece and black and ivory damask purchased from JoAnn's with a 50% off coupon for $20.00
A 5 hours total of sewing...1st side took 3 hrs. I am a first timer sewing with the drop cloth and its huge. Keep in mind my living room is a work in progress, the blinds and all wood trim will be changing in the near future. So, without further adieu I give you my first major sewing project...
They were a ton of work, but oh so worth it to me.

Monsters

I made these for my little nephew's for Christmas. The little one is for my 5 month old nephew. The face will be added when he gets older so he won't choke on the eyes.
