garage sale coffee table

My mom scored this coffee table for 5 BUCKS!!! She was driving down her street and stopped to talk with one of her neighbors who was starting to pack up her garage sale when she spotted this beauty. So she asked how much and her friend said she was asking $25 for it but just wanted it gone at this point. She thought about it for a sec and asked my Mom is she would pay 5! Heck yes!!!
Her 90s Hunter Green and lighter oak top was just not doing it for me. I went to my stash of spray paint to see what I had...sitting right in front was a brand new can of Ocean Breeze I had picked up at Walmart for $2! PERFECT! I grabbed the can, a can of Minwax in Dark Walnut and the polyurethane in clear plus sand paper, and a few foam brushes and headed outside!!!

Here she is drying in the front yard!!! I am in LOVE!!!

I did a little experimenting {which can be scary}. 

I sealed the top of the table first while the stain was still a little damp and then the legs. Which left a perfect amount of brown on the Ocean Breeze. Toning it down just enough!!!

lamp evolution

I have had this lamp for a few years and it has been in many different spots around my house. I picked it up from a lady who was done having a garage sale and she was just going to toss it. So, I did what any thrifty chicka would do and snatched it up. The shade was worn and the base was a pretty shade of gold and white crackle. 

I painted her black a few months ago and recovered the shade in the black and white damask fabric.

It was off white for a while, But, as soon as I found out I was prego with baby #3, a girl! I knew I wanted her room black, white and "Tiffany" blue. 

I had visions of this lamp gracing the dresser in all her frilly, girly, glory!

 She needed one last finishing touch....

 I used my trusty hot glue gun and a black feather boa (I picked up at the Grand Opening of JoAnn
s in Idaho Falls using a 50% coupon. for $4 buckaroos! SCORE!) to go around the top and the bottom. 

 Bottom layer...done!

Top and Bottom done! I can't wait to get her dresser all set up. Just the right amount of girly I was looking for!

glass candle sticks and vases...

 I used the three candlesticks, tall glass vase, pink flower, tan flat candle holder and fleur de lis.

1. I used rust-oleum in oil rubbed bronze to spray paint the flat candle holder and the fleur de lis.

2. As those were drying I Gorilla Glued the candlesticks to the pink flower and glass candle holder and the pink glass knob to the bottom of one of the tall glass vases.

3. One the flat candle holder was dried I Gorilla glued it to the third glass candle stick.

4. Once all of the pieces were dried I placed the fleur de lis on the flat candle holder and placed the glass vase over the top of that. 

AND....

These look darling in my daughter's room. The pink flower holds her bracelets and I'm not sure what I am going to put in the empty one...maybe some mini decorated balls.

I found this cute little car at the DI yesterday for $1.50 and couldn't pass it up.
I added some cornflower blue spray paint and minwax stain for an antique look and...voila!

This darling mirror I picked up at the DI (thrift store) has found a new home and out look on life.

My little sis gave me this vase she picked up from the DI (thrift store) .
I love the shape but am not crazy about the color. We all know a little spray paint changes everything...
I think she looks lovely on my milk jug table!

Toy chest bench made for a princess.

I forgot to take a before pic (like most times) But, this is basically the idea of where I started. My husband used to work at a Mattress store which was part of a larger Furniture place when he picked this baby up for 10 bucks. (The only thing I miss about him working there was the major scores on quality pieces of furniture.) Anyway, back to the project. This baby has been sitting in my house for a few years with no personality.
Then my baby girl comes into the world and I begin the fun process of decorating a little girls room.
Step 1: sanded down, cleaned off and detached the lid.
step 2: a little 'ballet slipper' pink spray paint and distressing
step 3: I found queen size quilters batting at a thrift store for 4 bucks! When I got it home I measured and cut to size. Layering the pieces together I used 3M spray adhesive between each level.
step 4: Using this darling brown zebra fabric I got the day after Thanksgiving I used the same spray adhesive to attach it to the lid.
step 5: attach lid back to toy box and added two accent pillows (one of which my mom made)...and Voila!
Isn't she darling!?!

P.S. In the process of doing a chair rail...

Christmas projects

My sister has been eying this toy chest in my moms basement for ages. My little bro was using it as a stash all when he cleaned his room. It was unfinished and hiding in a corner. I emptied it out hulled it up stairs, disassembled it, sanded it down, 3 coats of paint (it just sucked it up and I will always use a primer from now on) and stain brushed on and wiped off. Dang I loved this piece too and knew right where I would put it if I were to keep it. Since I loved it so much I knew my little sis would too. I left it dissembled because she was coming up from Utah in her Accord and I knew it wouldn't fit in the trunk. She was so excited about seeing it put together she assembled it until she left a few days later. Huge success! I love this game.


I found this clock at Ross before Christmas for 10 bucks. I purchased it with the intention of painting it black and giving it to my sister-in-law. However when I got it home I noticed a little chip at the bottom of the clock face. Part of me was sad because I new she would love it all dolled up. But, now I could keep it because I knew just the right place for it and the chip would go undetected. Oh, well Merry Christmas to me! I love the way it turned out, but I am not in love with the way the face looks. It will be getting a new face when I decide how the rest of the wall is going to look.

I purchased these sticks at Ti Pan a few years ago and displayed them in a few different ways. I wanted something new so, I decided to brake them in half. I like the way they turned out but I am thinking of spray painting them white and glitter on top of that. Not sure...they are a work in progress.

This is the newest of a few projects I have going right now. I have her painted and will be adding the finishing touches this week. Oh, she is looking fab! I can't wait until its all done :)

my 1st thrifie day

made a trip to the DI on Wednesday and found a few keepers. I have been wanting a spoon and fork set to hang in my kitchen for years. Have only stumbled across a few sets and all were too expensive. Well, not today...these ceramic lovlies were sitting on a bottom shelf and only marked at $2. These little ladies will no longer be sporting their brown drab dresses. The perfect "little black dress" was waiting at home. The bowl which has the Target label on the bottom was a whopping 1 buck! which I saw the exact same one later that day while at Target for $14.99. woot woot! Darling little ceramic vase was $1.50 and the children's books were 50 cents and $1. I also found a trash bag filled with brand new yarn I picked up for my mom for $2.00. She met me in town to pick it up before I went home she was that excited about it. Needless to say I didn't get her home to make the shot. Oh, well some finds are just too good to wait for.
In my excitement to get the spoon and fork changed I didn't get an alone before, so this will have to do.

These darling little chairs I picked up at a local flea market for 5 bucks including the table pictured below. Because they are for my little boy the flowers had to go. I spray painted them to match my dinning chairs.

This is my first before and after for this blog.
I was given this mirror by my mother in law a few years ago. I didn't know what I was going to do with this awful looking piece. However, I loved the shape and the details, just not the color. Well, years later, during one of my crafty runs I took out the mirror and added some black spray paint.
I think she turned out lovely.
